Play Submissions

At this time, Actor's Express is unable to accept unsolicited manuscripts directly from playwrights. Due to our small staff size, the acceptance of unsolicited work is simply not possible. While Actor's Express is committed to the production and development of new plays, our policy is designed to ensure that we are able to find new work in a way that is targeted and efficient.

Unsolicited scripts may be submitted by agents and professional representatives. Additionally, some unsolicited work may be considered on the strength of a professional recommendation and/or existing professional relationship.

Professional representatives may submit work on behalf of their clients to:

Agents, please submit any email queries directly to Artistic Director Freddie Ashley.

Ghostlight Series

Ghostlight will offer Independent and emerging artists space and opportunity to present their work at Actor’s Express. This work may include but is not necessarily limited to:

  • Staged readings of original plays
  • Spoken word
  • Musical storytelling
  • Personal narrative
  • Dance
  • Mask work
  • Studio art improv

Interested parties may apply up to 3 times a year. A Ghostlight event will be presented once per run of a show on the 3rd Thursday at midnight and 3rd Sunday evening of our mainstage production run schedule.

Those projects selected will be responsible for their own marketing, though AE will include it on their website and social media platforms. Selected projects will have access to very minimal tech, just theatre work lights. Applicants may bring in and use their own sound equipment such as guitar or keyboard amps, wireless microphones, etc. There is NO COST to the artist to participate in this program.

Artists will have access to rehearsal space/stage on the Tuesday and Wednesday prior to their performance. Access will be after 10pm.

AE will provide intern staff to run the bar and will retain all funds made on concessions.

Admission to Ghostlight series projects is Pay What You Decide after the performance. Artist will receive 50% of door earnings after the first $100.
