Turner Voices In the Works
TURNER VOICES IN THE WORKS is a chance for Actor's Express to champion the next great American play from its very beginning. Emerging playwrights are given the opportunity to rehearse and fine tune a script they are currently writing with Atlanta's best actors and directors in a workshop hosted by AE. The workshop culminates in a public reading at which YOU will have the opportunity to share your reaction with the playwright and creative team. Your comments will help the playwright shape, clarify, and improve what could be the next great American play!

Broadsword
By Marco Antonio Ramirez
Directed by Freddie Ashley
Monday, May 31 - 7:00 pm
Former members of the heavy metal band Broadsword reunite for a funeral. Richie, the band's former guitarist, has recently declared dead after having been missing for six months. Tensions mount with the arrival of Richie's brother Tony, a would-be rock star who abandoned the band for a brush with fame and fortune. When a mysterious stranger arrives, spinning an outrageous story that just might hold the clue to Richie's disappearance, friendships are tested and the former bandmates are given an opportunity to make music together one more time - with one really big catch. This devilishly entertaining new play packs in mind-blowing plot twists, a wry sense of humor and ass-kicking rock-and-roll.
Denise2
By Lauren Gunderson
Monday, June 7 - 7:00 pm
An official government letter shatters the world of 18 year-old Denise, a lonely teenager who lives with her beloved father on a desolate island near Washington State. She learns that she was not conceived, but cloned from her mother's DNA - and that her father was the scientist who actually carried out the procedure. When she discovers that there are other kids out there just like her who are dying at an alarming rate, Denise embarks on a frantic search to understand the nature of her own humanity. Written by award-winning playwright Lauren Gunderson, Denise2 explores the redeeming quality of love and the lengths to which people will go to save the ones they love.
