Get ahead of the curve on the hottest plays and playwrights in the American theatre. Led by AE Artistic Director Freddie Ashley, this class reads eight new plays (either un-produced or produced within the last year) by a diverse lineup of early-career to established playwrights. Each week includes in-depth discussion of two plays.

Dramaturgy

Instructor: Celise Kalke (Director of New Projects, Alliance Theatre)

CLASSES MEET WEEKLY STARTING APRIL 24TH (MAY 1ST, 8TH, & 15TH)

In four lessons, Celise Kalke – Alliance Theatre director of New Projects – will take students through an overview of Dramaturgy and Literary Management.  The course will concentrate on reading Paula Vogel’s INDECENT.  This will involve discussing the play as a platform for research and creating a research binder.  Other elements of the class are reading about dramaturgy and literary management.

Stage Combat

Instructor: David Sterritt (Fight Choreographer for AE’s Cardboard Piano and Appropriate)

CLASSES MEET WEEKLY STARTING JUNE 19TH (JUNE 26ST, JULY 3RD, & JULY 10TH)

A 4 week course exploring some of the basics of stage combat such as slaps, punches, chokes, falls, and more! The class focuses on the most common situations actors will be put in so they can learn how to safely and effectively perform violence for the stage.
