Voice For the Actor

This course serves as an introduction to spoken voice skills for the actor, to cover topics including respiration, alignment, phonation, support, supply, and resonance. Participants will learn how vocal skills coordinate with imagination and intention as part of the actor’s “toolbox” for approaching performance. Special consideration will be given to accessing maximum expression with minimum tension by identifying and addressing inefficient muscular effort in the body. Working approaches will be drawn from pedagogies developed by Kristin Linklater and Patsy Rodenburg.

Audition Technique

Instructor: Clifton Guterman (Actor, Associate Director of Theatrical Outfit)

In this four week course, Clifton Guterman will teach the fundamentals of auditioning as well share insider tips for working professionally in the theatre industry. The course is a combination of discussion, Q&A and mock auditions.

Led by AE Artistic Director Freddie Ashley, this class reads eight new plays (either un-produced or produced within the last year) by a diverse lineup of early-career to established playwrights. Each week includes in-depth discussion of two plays.

Stage Combat

Instructor: David Sterritt (Fight Choreographer for AE’s Cardboard Piano and Appropriate)

CLASSES MEET WEEKLY STARTING JUNE 4TH (JUNE 11TH, 18TH, & 22ND)

A 4 week course exploring some of the basics of stage combat such as slaps, punches, chokes, falls, and more! The class focuses on the most common situations actors will be put in so they can learn how to safely and effectively perform violence for the stage.
